EncaptureMD Documentation & FAQ

How do I do a multi-fetus study on US machines that don't support that function?

Updated on

One example is a Zonare machine sold by Mindray. They can only send measurements for one fetus per study. The sonographer could do more than one study, but typically there is maternal information and that would have to be repeated. Also studies have to be billed together which causes other problems.

We propose a manual solution to combine 2 study measurements into one EncaptureMD study. The example below is a twin study, but could be used for the rare triplet, etc.

NOTE: this method will combine the measurements from two separate studies into one study. But it breaks the link to open the study from the EncaptureMD work list (which may not even be the standard customer work flow). In this situation, only open the study from the PACS work list.

Performing a twin study

  1. Scan the mother and the first fetus
  2. End that study and start a second manually (may not be an order)
  3. Scan just the second fetus in the second study.
  4. End that study

Combining in PACS/EncaptureMD

  1. In the PACS, open the SECOND study (the one with the fetus only), then open EncaptureMD and go to the Study tab and click on Technical Data .
  2. Click Unlink

Confirm by clicking the red Unlink button to finish the process

Close the SECOND study.

Open the FIRST study (it has to be in this order so that information will go back to EMR properly). When you pick the App to use, you will see a choice to create a new study or pick an existing study. In this case, choose the (1) Use This Study button

  1. Navigate to the Obstetrics - fetus tab.
  2. You will see 2 fetus entries in the table. For triplets + repeat the steps above, but always open the first study last.

Finally, edit the Fetus ID to be correct for the order acquired.
