Fetal Echo Application Overview

Updated on

This article covers the use of the EncaptureMD fetal echocardiogram application. It is a truncated version of the pediatric echo application. It supports fetal Z scores and can report multiple fetuses.

Use the Pediatric Echo application documentation as a reference.

Detail

Fetal echo is different because there can be more than one fetus in the report. Because of that, the Interpretation tab contains a table where fetal "rows" are added to the table.

  1. The GA can either be imported from the US machine or entered here manually. It is essential for Z score calculations to work.
  2. Each fetus will have a row in the table. Most studies will be for singleton pregnancies with ~1% having two rows. The rows should exist after measurement import. Click on a row to perform the interpretation on that fetus.
  3. Technologists/sonographers can enter information here. The private data is for the interpreting MD only and does not appear in the report.

Measurement Tab

  1. The top row shows basic fetal information. All fetuses are automatically numbered based on US information. There is a text block which is most useful for multiple pregnancies to differentiate one fetus from another.
  2. There are two tabs - Measurements and Interpretation. Measurements is the default. Once measurements are reviewed, click the Interpretation tab to perform the qualitative interpretation.
  3. The Z scores are listed here. The value, mean/range and Z-score are all calculated. If the Z scores are 0 or -9999, the GA is probably missing.
  4. Z score ranges by color. Note: These are only displayed visually on this page not in the report,  to call attention to out of range values.
    1. -2.0 to 2.0  are in the Normal range with no change to background color
    2. Between |2 and 3| are yellow
    3. More than |3| is red
  5. Values without Z scores are show at the bottom of the page in blue.

Interpretation Tab

  1. Enter abnormal qualitative findings here. This is similar to adult and pediatric echo with a slightly different layout.
  2. Click the All Else Norm button to add normal findings to anything not marked abnormal. If the study is totally normal, just click the All Else Norm button first.
  3. The reports will generate (Conclusion and Detail) here. You can copy from the detail to conclusion by right click, copy to conclusion.
  4. Once ready, click Save to return to the Table.
