How do I program a barcode scanner for inventory?

Updated on

This document provides guidance for programming a barcode scanner for use with EncaptureMD utilizing the scanner configuration guide. Supported barcode scanners may be purchased through EncaptureMD or preferred hardware vendor.

Programming

Download the attached EncaptureMD 2D Barcode Scanner Configuration-2 pdf.

The attached sheet must be scanned in sequence starting with step 1 of 13 (1/13) through 12/13 on pages 1-2. When scanning, please pause between each barcode scan to make sure the scanner has completed the programming change associated with each barcode.

Barcode 12/13 is the Save Rule at the end of page 2.

Scan the 5 barcodes on page 3. Programming should now be complete.

The scanner now needs to be tested.

Testing

Per the testing instructions, print page 4 of the guide and scan each barcode into a text area in Word or Notepad or other text editor. The five codes scanned in sequence should yield the five lines as displayed below. The user does not need to add a carriage return or hit enter between each scan for the data to be on separate lines.

If testing yields different results, repeat the programming process from the beginning to the end increasing the pause between each scan.

Barcode scanners can "lose" configuration. A copy of the EncaptureMD 2D Barcode Scanner Configuration should be maintained in an easily accessible location for users to quickly reprogram as needed.
