What is the local proxy?
The local proxy (or "localproxy") is primarily a link between EncaptureMD and your PACS. The local proxy allows opening a study in your PACS open the same study in EncaptureMD. Additionally, the local proxy allows for the function of the screenshot tool, which will automatically attach screenshots taken to the attachments tab in your study.
How can I tell if the local proxy is not working?
You'll notice that the local proxy is not working if you open studies in your PACS software, and EncaptureMD does not open the corresponding study automatically. You may also notice that the local proxy is not working if the screenshot button is missing from the top bar of a study.
How do I confirm it is not running or connected?
The most visible sign that the local proxy is not running is a circled red "x" to the right of your username in the upper right of the EncaptureMD window. You may click this circled red "x" for a detailed view of the local proxy connection, as well as a button to attempt to reconnect the local proxy.
How do I fix the problem?
We'll start by making sure that the EncaptureMD Local Proxy service is running, and set to start on reboot automatically. Follow these instructions to do this
NOTE: Your task manager and start menu may look different from the screenshots in this guide, but the steps are the same despite the difference in appearance. If you are unable to follow along due to the difference between your workstation's appearance and the images in this document, please reach out to EncaptureMD Support at (215) 687-4448 or [email protected], we will be happy to assist in answering your questions.
1. Open the Services tool from your start menu
2. In the services window, scroll down and locate to "EncaptureMD LocalProxy Service"
3. Verify that the the status column shows the EncaptureMD LocalProxy Service is running ( label 1 ) and set to start automatically
3a. If the status of the service is not showing "Running" but is instead either blank or "Stopped", re-start the service by clicking the "start" in the left-hand drawer
3b. If the startup type column does not show "Automatic", right click the service and select properties.
3c. From the drop-down next to "Startup type", select "Automatic" and select "Apply".
4. Now that your service is running, and set to start automatically, you can click "reconnect" from the red "x" menu in EncaptureMD
5. You'll know the local proxy is working again when the window disappears, and the red "x" becomes a green checkmark. Additionally, if you view a study, you will see the screenshot button present.
What if the service is running, but the Local Proxy still isn't running?
Depending on your version of EncaptureMD, you may also need to have the service running in order to have functionality. We'll check if the local proxy process is running. If it is, we'll re-start it, and if it's not, we'll start it.
1. Start by opening the Task Manager. In your Start menu search, type "task manager" and select "Open"
2. In the top of the Task Manager window, search for "emd". Verify that there is a result in the Background processes section called "EMDWindowsGUI (32 bit)". If you don't see a search bar, look for and press a button labelled "more details" at the bottom of the task manager window.
3. If you do see this process as shown above, right click it, and select "End Task", then proceed to the next step.
4. Search in your start menu for "local proxy" as you did for task manager in step 1. Select "Open" on the EncaptureMD LocalProxy App result.
Note: If you see a pop-over dialog box similar to the image shown below, please select "Yes".
4. Verify that the local proxy works as expected once you've launched (or re-launched) the process. If you have gotten through this entire document and are still experiencing trouble, please reach out to EncaptureMD Support at (215) 687-4448 or [email protected], we will be happy to assist in troubleshooting your local proxy installation.
What if the LocalProxy has trouble starting automatically after my computer reboots?
If you notice that the LocalProxy isn't starting when it should, for example, after a reboot of your computer, follow these steps to make sure your install and configuration is correct, then implement a work-around.
These steps should be a last resort once you've confirmed that the services are set to start automatically (instructions are in the "How do I fix the problem?" section in steps 1 through 3c), due to the fact that this needs to be replicated for every user on the machine.
1. Open Windows Explorer and click your address bar
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\FlexibleInformatics\LocalProxy and press enter.
3. Locate EMDWindowsGUI and right-click.
4. Select "create shortcut". If your computer is running Windows 11, you may not see the "create shortcut" option. In this case, select "Show more options", as shown below.
If you are presented with this popup, select "yes". Otherwise, locate the new file named EMDWindowsGUI - Shortcut and drag it to your desktop.
5. Return to Windows Explorer, and enter %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup in the navigation bar and press enter.
Windows will replace %appdata% with the file location on your computer, do not worry, this is intentional!
6. Drag the shortcut you made from your desktop into this location. You should now have your shortcut in the folder as shown below.
7. Verify that this causes the LocalProxy to start automatically after reboots.
If it still won't start automatically, or if you have any other trouble with the LocalProxy, please reach out to [email protected] or submit a ticket through the help button in EncaptureMD, or give us a call at (215) 687 - 4448.
